Laser Pointer Question. Im I going to go blind?

Okay i was in a resturant and someone had a red regular laser pointer and was shining at the wall. I accidently looked up and looked at the corner of the laser. The laser did not directly hit my eye but i looked at the side of it for a split second and looked away real quick. Am i going to get eye damage

Is my cat playing with Laser pointer dangerous?

Hi, recently I got a laser pointer, and my cat goes crazy over it. She chases it wherever it goes, and I think it's cute and that she enjoys it though. Sometimes when she's turning or whatever she'll look at the device that is producing the light. I am afraid that when she turns the laser will go in her eye a little, will it damage her eye, or will she be fine? The problem is, is that this is really the only toy she plays with. Anyone know?

How can u make a cheap laser pointer stronger?

You ask a very interesting question. I haven't done much in the way of LASERS, but think of a laser beam as just a higher frequency microwave signal, which, in fact, it is. How do you increase the range of a microwave transmitter? Well, you start by increasing the power delivering capacity of its power supply; you raise the heights of its antenna and fine tune the antenna (pan) it for better signal at the receiving antenna; you might use an antenna with higher forward signal gain and directivity; or a transmission line which offers less signal loss; or, you might change the bias voltage alittle in the transmitter's RF final stage, within reasonable limits, while measuring output power.

Other approach is to improve the antenna, transmission line, and receiver sensitivity at the receiving sight. Either way, you end up improving system performance.

Now, translate those ideas from microwave based systems to that for a laser based device.

Right off the top:

1. Parallel batteries (same voltages) increases power supply capacity to deliver more current and power to the laser.

2. You may be able to make some small fine adjustments to Laser circuitry that will increase output power. It would be good to have a circuit diagram and spects for the laser diode being used, and to know what your doing---always helps alittle.

3. You might try some experiments using finally polished mirrors and bouncing the laser beam between the mirrors. Of course, you would want one mirror to be semi-reflective so that the beam could pass through at high enough energy level.

4. You might try something like stimulating the laser with an extrnal magnet or, better yet, an externally controlled electromagnet.

5. You might try placing two diode laser at a slight angel to one another such that their beams cross and combine at a point and, perhaps, reinforce each other.

Of course, there are absolute limits on how much you can get out of a laser diode, power wise. But to get more power output, you have to put additional power (in some form) into the device.

An average green pointer produces 5mW of condensed light but is not all that visible at night, if you want to be able to see the entire beam you'll want roughly 20mW or higher, and if you want a burning laser you'll need roughly 100mW or more.

3. Price and Quality - This is probably one of the most important pieces to any purchase, but like all items of new and advanced technology, one model can vary greatly from another. This is where a little bit of research will really go a long way to ensure you are buying a laser that is worth your time and effort. Take a few moments and search out the exact models specs, reviews if any, and videos of actual users enjoying the laser. Because a cheap laser can really be just that, cheap or poorly designed, the price point will need to be closely scrutinized, as with most things you get what you paid for.

All in all you can improve the night star gazing with any high quality astronomy laser pointer, but its important to ensure that any cheap pointer you buy meets a few specific quality standards and really is what you are looking for. The color, output power, and price point should be a major factor in your decision, while style and portability can be secondary as most diodes are portable and even have a nice 'tech' look these days.
